Fokam Parfait climbed onto the hood of his vehicle as it became submerged in the floodwaters on Lamington Road in Tewksbury, township police said.

Parfait then climbed into the pickup bed of a patrol vehicle that arrived to rescue him, police said.

A follow-up investigation found that Parfait had two outstanding warrants — one for aggravated assault out of West Orange, and the second for fraud out of Hazlet, police said.

Parfait was taken into custody and held at the Warren County Jail pending a court appearance.
